The Haircut

So it has been a while since we have updated our blog. As a recap for we got married, went to Disney World on our honeymoon, and are now a little more than a half way through our semester at USU. So I know most would expect a real update about what has happened but unfortunately there isn't going to be one, at least for now.

In more recent news Haley has been trying to get me to go and get a haircut. So in an effort to be an economical newly wed couple Haley convinced me to go and buy a set of clippers and let her cut my hair. I think this picture shows how I felt about the whole idea...

So I wasn't exactly excited to let Haley cut my hair. After all she hasn't ever cut hair before! So once she stopped freaking out once she got me tied down she went to work with our $17 clippers from Wal-Mart. And as for how it turned out...

Haley did a pretty good job. I guess I will now be saving the normal $15 that I used to spend at King Hair to get the monthly, okay so more like every 6 weeks, trim.

Just trying to chip in a little

Spencer this post goes out to you since I am pretty sure you are one of the few if not the only one who reads this little site.

Well for you Spencer, and anyone else that reads this, as Haley mentioned I have been kind of busy lately. I recently got a job at the Big Blue Box, aka WalMart, as a cashier. While not the most glamorous job one could have for the summer they were the first and the only ones to call me back for an interview. And to be totally honest the working conditions aren't anywhere near as bad as the the rumors that I have heard of. Its kind of interesting to see who comes in everyday and what they buy. So far my favorite item sold is the home pregnancy test. From guys who come with their buddies to the frightened single woman that comes in you can't find a wider range of emotions with any other purchase in the store.

In other news, Haley got her wisdom teeth out today. While I do have photos I was made to promise that they would never make it to this site or else... She is doing pretty well, after being a bit loopy and groggy. She continues to take her "happy pills" and life is good for her.

The next few weeks will be full of work, school, wedding showers, recommend interviews and other last minute things as we enter the last month of being single! Hopefully I will find some more time in there to add a few more post so that I can help Hay out with this blog!

Car Trouble

I told John it was his turn to post something, but since he's been working so much I figured I would give him a break and post instead :)

To add to the list of bad things that have happened to my car, someone tried to break in sometime this weekend... My dad guessed that they caused about $800 in damage, just from bending the frame of my doors, which should technically be painted, and need new weather stripping...yay... I have LOVED my little Jetta, except that it seems to always find a way to get damaged somehow. In the past year it has been:

1. Rear-ended, luckily nothing really happened to it, except that I was scared to death because my dad had just finished painting it and making it really nice for me to drive.

2. It was backed into. The same day I moved into my dorm at USU, someone's dad backed into it while it was parked in the parking lot. After I freaked out a little we found that he was kind enough to leave a note, so my freshly painted car was fixed and put back to normal.

3. It was almost stolen by a stupid tow truck driver who had mistaken my car for my neighbor's black Jetta that he was supposed to be taking to the dealership.

4. And it was almost broken into by someone who obviously didn't know what they were doing, especially because the car is almost 15 years old and there was nothing in the car except a $20 FM transmitter, and they weren't able to get into it anyway...

In other news...the wedding plans are coming along great! I just had my bridals taken, invites are almost ready to go out, and we have enough furniture that we can probably get by! John's dad found us a kitchen table and chairs at a yard sale and seeing it just kinda made things more real for me! It made me excited to think that we would have somewhere to eat dinner and do homework! John and I are also going to the Oakley Rodeo with my family for the 4th, so hopefully we'll post some pictures of our cowboy and cowgirl adventures when it's over!

Engagement Pictures!

I decided we needed more pictures on this blog, and I had to fix it some how, so I thought I would put up a couple of engagement pictures! We were pretty excited with the way they turned out, especially because we spent most of our time while they were being taken saying "this is SO retarded!" because we felt stupid being all kissy in front of some random guy (AKA our photographer). The first one is the picture we picked to go with our announcements and the other one is just one I happened to like quite a bit :]

Tow-mater!

So...funny story! Today I was at my house with John and my mom and I had just come out of the bathroom when my mom started yelling, "Haley! Someone's trying to tow your car!" My car had been parked on the side of my house on 20th East. This used to be a no-parking zone, because of the bus stop, but the bus stop was taken out so now we can park there. The tow-man had my car all loaded up on his truck ready to take it away. I kept thinking, there's no way they could be taking my car! I can park there! The three of us ran outside and started yelling at the tow-truck dude, "What the heck are you doing?!?!" He says, "Isn't this the black Jetta I'm supposed to take to Strong Volkswagon?" We all said NO! That's MY car! We told him that both of our neighbors had black Jettas and that he was probably looking for one of them! After he realized he had picked up the wrong car he lowered it off of the tow truck and said "Well, these things just happen!" like picking up the wrong car is something he does every day. He drove around the corner to call his boss and we drove by him probably 10 minutes later, and found him still on the phone, trying to figure out where the black jetta that he was supposed to be picking up was. Haha. I found this to be quite a terrifying experience, until I realized how funny it was that the dude didn't even check licence plate numbers to make sure he was picking up the right car. So there's my funny story for the day. :)

The registry DUN DUN DUN!

So I just thought that I would add my two cents about the registering! First of all three hours in Bed Bath and Beyond is more time than any man should have to endure, okay so it wasn't that bad and I think Haley was ready to go long before I was. But it was still a way long time. We looked at everything. To the point that I when I called my parents on my drive home to Layton, they were telling me about how a family friend was getting married that day and that they had got her some thing that had a cake pan and a carrier, I informed them that they had purchased a three piece Corningwear set with carrier and that it could be found in the kitchen gadget section on an end cap for $40. I know it just isn't right that I know that. The other thing that freaked me out was how much stuff cost! So I know we picked out some nice pillowcases but $30 for two pillow cases come on! (Please someone by them, and even more important buy us our pillows they are so sweet!!!)

Anyways we did register for a ton of stuff. And for those of you looking for some info BBB has all the stuff we need. Target is just the fun stuff mostly which is why you should all go there first LOL. No that stuff would be fun but I am kind of a freak about kitchen appliances so I am pretty excited about that too.

Who Knew?

Since we FINALLY finished school for the year, John and I decided we would start working a little harder on wedding stuff and try to get most of it out of the way before he leaves for Arizona. We decided today would be a good day to try and register because we had no other plans. We were both pretty excited to go and use the scanner-thingy. Little did we know that registering would take us around 4 hours! By the time we were done, we walked up to the registry desk completely exhausted! I'm pretty sure I've never made that many decisions in one day in my entire life! Just as we were getting done, there were about 10 new couples who had just come to the store, and John and I just kinda laughed, cause they all looked so happy to be there. Who knew that walking around a store scanning stuff could be so completely exhausting! Anyway, go check out our registry at Bed Bath and Beyond and if you really want, we registered for a few things at Target too!

The Proposal

So John always tells me that it's my job to tell the story of how we got engaged, because apparently I tell it better... haha. So here I go...

When John had finally convinced me that I should probably marry him, he went to Salt Lake to talk to my dad and make sure my parents were okay with the idea. The following weekend, he went to the jewelery store with his dad and looked at the ring that I had picked out when we had been ring shopping. I had no idea he was planning on proposing so soon, because he had convinced me that it was going to be a while before he could buy the ring. Little did I know that he would propose two days later :)

The following Monday was the first really nice day that we had had in a LONG time. It was finally sunny again, and John kept telling me that we should go to the park after FHE that night because it was such a nice day. He told me that he had a study session to go to before FHE, and I still don't know why I believed him, because he never goes to those study sessions, but for some reason I did. Of course he was going to pick up my ring... haha. When he got back, he kept telling me that he hoped FHE was short, because he really wanted to go to the park :) Lucky for him, FHE lasted about 5 minutes, because no one showed up and then he drove me to the park. He seemed a little dissapointed, because there were a MILLION kids running around and their parents kept looking at us like we were retarded for stealing the swings. We sat on the swings for a while just talking and laughing. I randomly decided that he should go down the giant tube slide, just cause I thought it would be funny, but he came up with some lame-o excuse that he was too tall and said that I should go down instead. He asked if he should catch me at the bottom and I told him that he should, and he said that when I was at the top that I should wait for a second haha. When I got to the bottom, he was down on one knee with the ring box in his hand, and we both just kinda sat there for a second as I realized what was going on! He asked if I would marry him and I said yes, and he put my beautiful ring on my finger! He stood up and I hugged him, and then we looked around at all of the little kids and their parents and decided that we should probably go, even though they weren't quite looking at us like we were retarded anymore, more like they were uber surprised. We spend that night visiting friends and talking on the phone and I smiled the entire time! I remember feeling a million different emotions that night, because I was excited and surprised, but scared at the same time. The big day is coming up quick and hopefully we'll have enough time to have everything ready by then!

Some things are just meant to be

There seems to be times in life where no matter how hard you try to understand things just work out in way that you never could have imagined.

As mentioned in the last post I am engaged to Haley, my best friends. She and I met here Utah State, a school that nither one of us had originally planed on attending. We are going to get married on Aug 8th. A saturday. At 10 Am. In the Salt Lake Temple. For those of you that are LDS you will understand why this is so impressive. A 10 o'clock sealing on a saturday in the middle of august is something that normaly has to be reserved at least 6 months in advance if not before that. Haley and I reserved this time a little more than 4 months ahead of time.

Our reception will be at The Lion House. A place that according to my parents and grandparents has traditionally been equally hard to get. We reserved that today. Everything with our marriage has been going so smoothly that I am almost starting to wonder why people freak out so much about planing a wedding. (sorry i have to take a minute to go and find some wood to knock on.)

But the thing that has thrown me for the greatest loop happened last night. A few weeks ago I went in to the admissions office to talk to a few friends of mine, hoping that they could help me find some general university scholarships to help pay for my last year of school. Last year I got an e-mail from the director of admissions telling me that I had been awarded a scholarship that will pay for my entire last year at USU! Which for anyone that knows what has been going on over the last year is a huge help to me and my family.

All of this is just further confirmation that things of this world are controlled by a far greater power. Things just work out the way that they are supposed to. And how grateful am I for that!
